Blackberry Winter

I use an app that sends me “memories” from my phone camera &/or social media.  I’ve noticed that every spring, in April into early May, we always have a super cold snap or two.  They trend towards the same weeks every year.

Old timers here in the South would call those cold snaps Dogwood & Blackberry Winters.  They are cold snaps that always happen when the Dogwood trees bloom & again when the blackberries are setting blond on the stalks.  They say that blackberries actually need the cold snap to literally set the blooms up for fruiting. That may or may not be true but it’s certainly reliable every year.
